I was fortunate to be able to speak about some of the ideas I&#8217;ve been developing here among so many interesting projects (<a href=\"http:\/\/metaphorest.net\/?lang=en\">MetaPhorest<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/bio.academany.org\/\">HTGAA<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/yokoshimizu.com\/\">Yoko Shimizu<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tupac.bio\/\">Tupac Bio<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bento.bio\/\">Bento Lab<\/a> etc).<\/p>\n<p>The topic of my talk was <em>&#8220;Is bioinformatics possible&#8221;<\/em>? A deliberate provocation, since of course many people including myself work with this every day. I simply mean to suggest that there are intrinsic problems in the field that are not usually discussed or thought about, and that it might be valuable to confront those problems.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.monomorphic.org\/papers\/is_bi_possible_short.pdf\">slides<\/a> are available, if anyone is interested.<\/p>\n<p>The bigger topic that is hinted at, but not discussed, might be <em>the instrumental relationship of humans to nature<\/em>.
